Programs

Africa Civil Society Forum serves civil society through the following current and planned programs.

Convener and Clearinghouse

ACSF serves as a convener and clearinghouse for civil society organizations on the continent and beyond where information, solutions and opportunities feed in and out in an organized and accessible manner via in-person meetings, teleconferences, online discussions, social media, and through the ACSF website and database.

Africa Union Summit Forum

ACSF hosts semi-annual forums in conjunctions with the African Union Summits for civil society organizations to inform the outcome of the summit by engaging with delegates and participating organizations and releasing a communiqué related to the theme of the summit,  immediate issues and current events.  Click here for more information.

Women's Africa Civil Society Forums

ACSF will host an annual Women’s Africa Civil Society Forum to coincide with International Women’s Day on March 9th that will focus on empowering women and addressing issues identified by women as key to securing peace and stability in Africa and beyond.  

Youth Africa Civil Society Forums

ACSF will host an annual Youth Africa Civil Society Forum to coincide with International Youth Day on August 12th to support and develop youth engagement in civil society with a focus on the themes of the African Union Summit, current events, and issues facing Africa’s youth.

Regional Africa Civil Society Forums

ACSF will partner with Africa civil society organizations and co-sponsor regional forums to address issues and opportunities unique to the region and to facilitate the engagement of expertise from other regions to share knowledge and experiences and to exchange ideas.

Documentation of Conflict and Atrocities

As part of civil society’s contribution to the continent, ACSF will work to provide documentation of conflict and atrocities for the purposes of remembrance, justice and prevention.  

Africa Early Warning System (AEWS)

ACSF will work with civil society to develop an Africa Early Warning System (AEWS) for man-made and natural disasters in order to define and respond to events in a timely manner.

Support for Independent Media

ACSF will actively support citizen journalists and independent media who give voice to civil society by providing training and technical and financial support when possible.

Civil Society Leadership Fund

To support professional development and educational goals, ACSF intends to establish an education and leadership fund to support and develop current and future civil society leaders.  

Intergovernmental and Regional Organization Participation

ACSF will send a delegation to participate in meetings of intergovernmental and regional organizations to contribute to the exchange of ideas and information.

Peacebuilding

ACSF supports the engagement of civil society as an authentic component of genuine peace processes that are designed to end conflict and build sustainable peace.
